The good alignment is a philosophy that promotes the welfare of others and is the opposite of evil. It is the traditional alignment for heroes. In D&D, good is objective (not relative to one's culture), and there are three variants: lawful good, neutral good, and chaotic good.

Among player characters (PCs), paladins are required to be good (specifically lawful good), while champions of Torm, Harper scouts, and purple dragon knights tend towards good (are not allowed to be evil). Among monsters and non-player characters, alignment may vary from creature to creature. However, some creature types are typically good to the point where the scholars of the Forgotten Realms would classify these creature types as "good". These include inhabitants of the upper planes (celestials and archons) and metallic dragons (brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver).

On the numeric scale used for alignment by Neverwinter Nights, good is the 70-100 range.

In the official campaigns, a PC's alignment can be shifted towards good through various actions. Most of these are dialog options in which the PC refuses a reward, donates money, or volunteers to help someone.
